same space, WE are all in it together
Road safety affects all road users. In Greater London there are 600,000 cycle journeys daily and six million people walk London’s streets. There were more than 20,000 accidents in total recorded last year, involving 27,000 people. A proportion of those involved Heavy Goods Vehicles.
In collaboration with Transport for London and the Metropolitan Police, RCA Service designers worked with Vehicle designers to explore better truck design and create a service that would increase the safe movement of people and vehicles through the streets of London. The human and social behaviours, as well as environmental and technological opportunities were considered.
"WE HAVE TO THINK ABOUT MODES OF TRANSPORT AND START RELATING TO EACH OTHER AS USERS OF A SHARED SPACE." Cynthia, Chair Road Peace
OUR SERVICE
Same Space aims to give a voice to Londoners and put more power in their hands. It improves mutual respect on the streets by getting people to relate to each other as users of a shared space. The service is built around a crowd sourcing platform that enables users who are part of Same Space to voice concerns over new infrastructural changes, existing issues and unintended consequences that can arise in a complex city such as London. It opens up a communication channel between TFL and the people it serves, as well as interlinking road users to each other.
